The Corporation
MeetingWare International, Inc. is a computer software development corporation founded by Dr. Phillip D. Harris in 1987. The corporation is organized into two divisions:
Software Products for the Meetings Industry
This division develops, markets, and supports software applications for meeting professionals representing colleges and universities, associations, corporations, government, and independent planners. MeetingWare Office for Windows is the flagship product consisting of three applications: MeetingWare Task, MeetingWare Budget, and MeetingWare Registration. Each application can be purchased separately. These products were developed by Dr. Harris who has had twenty-five years experience in the development and administration of hundreds of meetings and conferences.
Convention and Meeting Services
This division contracts with associations, corporations, organizations, and independent planners to provide computerized registration and hotel reservation management services for their conventions, conferences, seminars, trade shows, and exhibitions. Among our association contracts, we service Novell, Inc's NetWare Users International Association. This contract in 1996 included 22 conferences, and in 1997 includes 15 conferences, all of which are located throughout North America. Registration data entry is handled both at the international office as well as on-site at the conference venue. MeetingWare uses its own software products for contracts. As a result the software products are always on the cutting edge of the advances in technological and meeting operations.
MeetingWare currently holds corporate membership in the following organizations: Better Business Bureau of Utah; Utah Information Technologies Association; Association of Conference and Event Directors-International; Meeting Professionals International - Utah Chapter; Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau; Utah Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau; and the Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce.
The Founder
Dr. Harris was born and raised in the state of Utah. He attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and completed both a bachelor's and master's degree in the field of education. After six years teaching on the junior and senior high school and the college level, he completed a doctorate at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, in the field of higher education and educational administration. He was immediately recruited by BYU to chair the Department of Conferences and Workshops in the Division of Continuing Education.
During his eighteen years of experience at BYU, he served as the founding director of the BYU Conference Center. He was also involved with the Department of Travel Study where he organized and directed tours throughout the United States and Canada. He wrote a two-semester high school course of study in American Government for the Department of Independent Study. He also served for ten years as the director of the Elderhostel program throughout the State of Utah coordinating the program with ten instate colleges and universities. He took early retirement from BYU in 1991 to devote his full time to MeetingWare International.
During his professional career at BYU, he was honored with the Division of Continuing Education=s Administrative Excellence Award in 1984. He was very active with his membership in the University Continuing Education Association serving on the Division of Conferences and Institutes Executive Committee for eight years as committee member, secretary-treasurer, vice-chair, chair, and immediate past chair. In recognition of significant contributions to the field of conferences and institutes, he was awarded the Stanley C. Robinson Distinguished Service Award at the April 1986 UCEA national conference. He was a founding director of the newly formed Meeting Professionals International - Utah Chapter. He presently serves as President Elect for 1996-97.
Dr. Harris currently resides in Orem, Utah with his wife Renee. Three of their five children are married and live in the county near them. His son, Mark, who holds a MBA degree from BYU is the Director of Operations for MeetingWare. They have ten grandchildren. He is active in the community, having served as a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America for seven years resulting in his three sons earning their Eagle Scouts awards.
